Nokia Purchases Browser Developer Novarra Inc.

Nokia has announced recently that it has purchased Novarra, Inc., a mobile browser development firm based in Chicago employing 100 people. Apparently, Nokia plans to launch Novarra’s browser with the intention to deliver enhanced Internet experiences on its Series 40 devices later this year.

The Finnish company says that a new service offering using technology from Novarra will be available later in 2010 and will become a Nokia subsidiary after the acquisition is close, probably sometime in the second quarter of the year.

Nokia vs. Apple legal battle in 2 years

It seems that top phone makers, Nokia and Apple’s trial case regarding patents won’t be over anytime soon, not to mention that its first actual trial will begin only in 2012, when a U.S. court should decide which company infringed which patents.

According to an analyst, Nokia is seeking payment of up to 1 billion euros ($1.36 billion).This Finnish phone maker filed a suit against Apple back in October last year, claiming that the Cupertino company’s iPhone infringes 10 of its patents. Apple responded with a countersuit last December, saying that it’s actually Nokia which infringes 13 of its patents.

Apple later removed four patents from the claiming, but this has not…

Concept Phones: Nokia Stealth and Nokia 82 Dragonfly

Designer Reginald Shola Hingston shows us his Nokia concepts, Nokia Stealth and Nokia 82 Dragonfly, a mid-level handset for the tech inspired user while the later is an entry level phone using NOKIA deign language.

According to the designer, Nokia Stealth has an “ergonomically sculpted keypad, easy to navigate by touch sensations, a “rubberized matte texture surface absorbs light”, while a “pearlescent matte coloring” provides a dark red hue effect.

Yet, we still find Nokia 82 Dragonfly better. So what do you guys think? If it pushes through, would you buy one?  Should the manufacturer continue conceptualizing this kind of handsets like they normally do?

Nokia has officially confirmed the first phone from the Cseries family namely the Nokia C5 candybar. Dubbed as the “smartphone optimized for social networking and sharing,”,  this phone allows you to see Facebook status updates from the phonebook and also provides easy access to other social networking sites like MySpace.

Specifications-wise, the handset also features a S60 3rd Edition, 2.2 inch QVGA display, HSDPA, Ovi Maps 3.0 with free navigation, Nokia Messaging, 3.5mm headset jack, “stereo IHF speaker”, 3.2MP camera, and a 2GB card in the box.

The new Nokia C5 is expected to land on the market as soon as the second quarter of this year for 135 Euros ($183).

Did anyone of you attempted to count how many Nokia phones have been hitting the market every month or in a year? I bet we will have a hard time figuring it out. In addition to their collection, here’s a sneak peak to the upcoming smartphone Nokia N98.

According to some sources, this Nokia N98 will sport a 4-inch touchscreen display, a full QWERTY keyboard and a 32GB of internal memory. The handset is said to be released sometime before Christmas 2010 for a retail price of 450 Euro (about $615). There are still few more months to save up for that one cool and worthy gadget!
