Verizon now begins Motorola Droid Android 2.1 Updates

We are not sure if rumors are all true that Verizon Wireless Motorola DROID owners will begin getting their DROID Android 2.1 updates now. As of to date, one thousand Droid owners have probably received an update notification, while other 9,000 owners will be receiving theirs too soon.

Of course, as expected, the Moto Droid’s new software (version AP:ESE81/BP: C_01.3E.03P) will definitely bring several improvements and additional features, including Pinch-to-zoom for the Browser, Maps, and Gallery, Yahoo Mail support, Speech-to-text, 3D layout for the Gallery application, and Google Goggles.

Verizon to Launch Skype Mobile for Smartphones on March 25

US mobile carrier, Verizon Wireless is keeping its promise as it will launch its Skype mobile application on Thursday, March 25th. The service will be available on nine smartphones including BlackBerry Storm 9530, BlackBerry Storm2 9550, BlackBerry Curve 8330, BlackBerry Curve 8530, BlackBerry 8830 World Edition, BlackBerry Tour 9630, Motorola Droid, HTC Droid Eris and Motorola Devour.

This Verizon’s Skype mobile application will allow users to make and receive Skype to Skype calls worldwide, chat with other Skype users, and call international phone numbers at low rates.

For those interested, it will come pre-installed on new BlackBerry phones and will be available on the Android Market, or online at Skype’s website.

Though there are no official statements as of this press time, Project Pink has been a long talk of the town about secret handsets that Microsoft has been planning to launch.

Rumors have been circulating that these phones will be manufactured by Sharp, one of Japan’s leading phone makers. It is said that Microsoft Pink Pure and Pink Turtle seem to be featurephones, not smartphones. If the hearsays are true, it will be released by Verizon on April 20, catering to young mobile users. After the Verizon launch, the two devices should also be available across the globe via Vodafone.

The Verizon Wireless has just announced that the Palm Pre Plus will cost $149.99 with a 2-year contract and a $100 mail-in-rebate while the Pixi Plus will cost $99.99, also with a contract and rebate.

Unlimited data for the phones will cost $29.99, but should you wish to use the 3G Hotspot feature on both phones that lets you broadcast your 3G connection as a Wi-Fi signal for other devices, you’ll have to pay an additional $40 per month.

All’s well that ends well. AT&T and Verizon have both agreed to refrain from suing each other over Verizon’s “There’s A Map For That” commercials.

AT&T filed suit last month over allegedly “misleading” Verizon ads supposedly causing AT&T to suffer “irreparable harm.” The ads pointed out that Verizon’s 3G network covers more of the country geographically than AT&T’s, which is true.

According to a survey released by Consumer Reports, out of 50,000 readers who were asked about their satisfaction to wireless carriers,  AT&T scored the lowest score in 19 of 26 U.S. cities while Verizon Wireless ranked the highest.

The findings give new validation to Verizon Wireless’ ad campaign that compares their 3G map side-by side with AT&T. It is still uncertain though that there is a possibility that opinions were swayed by this ad during the time the survey was conducted.
